Potrettikuvia suokukoista

Täytyy myöntää, että ajatus käyttää kultaisia kehyksiä tämän videon suokukkojen muotokuvissa syntyi vasta jälkikäteen ennen editointia. Tarkoitus oli kyllä kuvata muotokuvia, mutta hyviä tilaisuuksia oli yllättävän vähän. Toisaalta innostuin kyttäämään toimintakuvia, jolloin aikaa peruskuvien kuvaamiselle jäi vähemmän.

Yleensä kuvauskojussa on hyvä äänittää myös luontoääniä, mutta tähän kojuun kuului aika paljon maantien ääniä ja muuta ihmistoiminnan hälyä. Aamuyöllä, kun oli hiljaista, naapurikojusta kuului kuorsausta. Aktiivista äänitysaikaa oli kovin vähän.

Videokuvaajan työskentely kuvauskojussa poikkeaa valokuvaajien työstä melkoisesti. Kun valokuvaaja odottelee tilannetta ja huokailee kun mitään ei tapahdu, videokuvaajalla on jatkuva kiire: on kuvattava laajoja yleiskuvia, lähikuvia, yksityiskohtia, kaikenlaista b-rollia, itseään, linnun tai muun eläimen puuhia ja kontaktia muihin eläimiin, saapumista paikalle ja poistumista. Lisäksi pitää pitää huolehtia äänityksestä ja välillä voisi ottaa myös valokuvia. Yöunille ei jää kovin paljon aikaa.

I have to admit that the idea to use gold frames for the portraits of Ruffs in this video was an afterthought before editing. I had intended to shoot portraits, but there were surprisingly few good opportunities. On the other hand, I was inspired to wait for the action shots, leaving less time for the basic shots.

Usually it’s good to record nature sounds in the photo blind, but this blind had quite a lot of road noise and other human activity. In the early morning, when it was quiet, there was snoring from a neighbouring photo blind. There was very little active recording time.

The work of a videographer in a hide is quite different from that of a photographer. While the photographer waits and sighs when nothing happens, the videographer is in a constant hurry: shooting wide shots, close-ups, details, all kinds of b-roll, himself, the activities of the bird or other animal and its contact with other animals, arriving and leaving the scene. You also have to take care of the recording and sometimes you could also take photographs. There is not much time for a night’s sleep.
